Due to the mortgage and foreclosure meltdown it is hard to say when and if a particular individual will be able to buy a home because obtaining a mortgage at this time is difficult for everyone unless you have perfect credit.  Bankruptcy should not be seen as an end but rather a beginning.  In the past, there have been many individuals that were able to repair their credit scores and obtain home loans within a few years after bankruptcy.  Although it is not wise to use them unless modestly, most credit card companies will offer credit shortly after bankruptcy.
